If an existing Waterpark Simulator save opens to a park with its builds missing after an update, exit without saving and verify the game files through Steam. CayPlay published file verification as the specific fix for the post-update empty-park symptom during the 1.0.21–1.0.31 hotfix sequence.
Do not demolish, rebuild, or keep saving into the empty state. Preserve the save before experimenting so a damaged installation cannot become an overwritten park.
First response: stop and preserve
As soon as the park appears unexpectedly empty:
- Do not place, delete, move, or purchase anything.
- Exit to the menu without intentionally saving if the current UI allows it.
- Close the game fully.
- Copy the complete save folder to a safe location.
- Record the park name, last known good time, update time, and semantic game version.
CayPlay identifies the Windows save folder as:
%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\CayPlay\WaterparkSimulator\slots
Copy the folder; do not work on the only version. Steam Cloud is helpful, but synchronization is not a substitute for a local preserved copy when the live state is uncertain.
Apply the official Steam fix
In the Steam library, open Waterpark Simulator’s properties, go to the installed-files area, and run Steam’s file integrity verification for the base game. Confirm that the library entry is Waterpark Simulator AppID 3293260, not the separate Demo AppID 3730180 or an unrelated same-name product.
Allow Steam to finish repairing or reacquiring files. Launch once from the Steam library, load the affected park, and inspect it before making any changes. If the expected objects return, close and reopen normally once more before deleting the preserved backup.
File verification checks the installed game. It is not a promise that every corrupted save can be repaired, and it should not be presented as a generic fix for every visual or progression problem.
Distinguish an empty park from other symptoms
An “empty park” means the save loads but expected player-built content is absent. It is different from:
- a black screen before the menu;
- a park that does not appear in the load list;
- missing only one attraction or district;
- loading the wrong save slot;
- opening an old Demo save after the Demo’s July 31 update;
- beginning a genuinely new park or a different difficulty save.
For a missing slot or a park that will not load, use Save Recovery. For a black screen or crash, use Crashes and Launching. The official empty-park verification step should not replace those narrower procedures.
If verification does not restore the park
Exit without saving new changes and keep all backups. Check whether another park loads correctly. Confirm that Steam Cloud did not select a different timestamp and that the load screen shows the intended park name. Do not rename .bac files until you have copied the entire slots folder.
Then prepare a support report containing:
- AppID 3293260 and the displayed semantic version;
- Windows version;
- affected park name and difficulty;
- whether the park was solo or multiplayer and who hosted last;
- when the update installed and when the park last loaded correctly;
- whether file verification found or reacquired files;
- screenshots of the loaded empty state and load-slot details;
- the preserved save copy, only when CayPlay requests it privately.
Use support@cayplay.com or the developer-supported Discord/Steam route. Never upload the whole LocalLow folder publicly; it may include data unrelated to the single report.
Avoid destructive “fixes”
Do not delete the LocalLow Waterpark Simulator folder, clear Steam Cloud, reinstall while leaving no local copy, use a save editor, or repeatedly cycle backups without preserving them. Those actions can remove the best recovery evidence.
Do not copy instructions for AppID 1362910, the older unrelated game with the same name. Do not treat the full-game save as reversible into the Demo: updated Demo saves can move to the full game, but a save opened in the full game cannot return to the Demo.
